Christine Woomer is an artist living amongst the trees and water in northern Michigan. She has a BFA in drawing and has always been interested in printing. Nature is a major inspiration for her earthy prints.
Each monoprint is created with many thin layers of acrylic paint, drawing, charcoal rubbings and sometimes photo transfers on a soft gel plate. Many different materials are used to make imprints in each of those layers. As a result, transparency occurs revealing underlying colors and shapes. Often hand painting or collage is added after pulling the print.
Each piece captures that richness, energy and sense of time that relates to the natural world. Pulling the paper off of the plate to reveal the image is a thrill that Christine admits “never grows old”.
