Murano Glass Sculpture by Salviati Venezia, Italy

$1,585.00
Sold

Murano Glass Sculpture by Salviati Venezia. Signed and numbered.

This sculpture was made from glass salvaged from French cathedrals and buildings in World War II and then re-blown into this sculpture.

The Venetian island of Murano has specialized in glassware for centuries. Murano’s glassmakers led Europe for centuries, developing or refining many technologies including crystalline glass, enamelled glass (smalto), goldstone, multicolored glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo), and imitation gemstones made of glass. Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291.

Dimensions: 11” H x 10” W x 3” D

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Wear is consistent with age and slight trace of residue from where the pieces of glass are bound together (as seen in images).

Shipping: Shipping cost is not included in the price of this item and will be charged separately.  Please inquire prior to purchase to receive a shipping quote or shipping cost will be provided within 1 business day of your purchase.
